Montes has served on the staff of Assemb. Phil Ramos (D-Central Islip) for eight years and worked on the Bellone campaign.
Born in Wisconsin to Salvadoran parents, Montes went on to live most of his childhood in El Salvador, returning to attend college at Marquette University in Wisconsin. In 2001, his family moved to the US after his father was appointed general consul of El Salvador on Long Island, a position he held until 2006.
Montes, who lives in Bay Shore, wrote about the appointment in an email today:
“Great challenges ahead but glad and ready to help the Bellone administration tackle them.”
